“from the river to the sea, palestine will be free” means that the Palestinians will be free from military occupation. This is a primarily a call for liberation and resistance against oppression.

Well, anything can be whatever you want. But the original meaning was the disappearance of all of Israel by force.

If I sing in the streets a KKK song, I don't think it will be a defense to argue that I meant it in a non-racist way.

Interesting perspective. Actually, neither you nor I know what the phrase "means" because it means different things to different people. In fact, the only evidence on what people mean by it that I've seen was reported in an editorial -- and they are all over the map (quite literally, because most couldn't identify which river or which sea).
